Mumbai: Bollywood seems to be obsessed with biopics! After Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Azhar’, Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’, Salman’s ‘Sultan’ and Sushant Singh Rajput’s ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’, John Abraham is the latest tinsel town superstar to join the biopic bandwagon.
The Dhoom star may play protagonist in a biopic of boxer Captain ‘Hawa Singh’. Singh, a forgotten name, had won the Western Command Boxing Champion in 1960 at the age of 23. He holds the streak of 11 consecutive championships from 1961 to 1972 which is yet to be beaten.
Though Singh was unable to be a part of the Asian Games in Jakarta because of border conflicts with China, he still represented India in the 1966 and 1970 in Bangkok winning two consecutive gold medals.
As per sources, Sam Fernandez, former COO of Vidhu Vinod Chopra films, said, “Yes, I am making a biopic on Captain Hawa Singh. We will produce the film along with John Abraham and a studio.”
John also expressed his excitement regarding the film, “We are both six-feet-one and weigh 94 kg. His son, Sanjay Singh, daughter-in-law and two grandkids came to see me. I’ve not signed it yet but the family, Sam and I are all very excited about this project”.
Hawa Singh wanted to go to the Olympics to face the late Mohammad Ali, but the political issues pushed him away. He was honoured with the Dronacharya Award in 1999.
