New Delhi: After Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Kabali’ film’s producer Kalaipuli S Thanu approached the Madras High Court seeking to prevent the illegal download of the film on internet, the Court on Friday passed an interim order and banned 169 service providers including 225 websites from releasing the film.
A petition was filed by Tamil Film Producer Council President seeking to direct authorities to stop websites from unlawful uploading of film Kabali.
The producer had told the court that movies are sold online at cheap rates and from a single copy, several thousand copies are made and sold in the black market.
In his petition, Thanu sought a direction to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to issue instructions to all service providers to block websites offering illegal download of the film.
Kabali is an India-Tamil gangster-drama starring Rajinikanth and Radhika Apte. The film will hit theaters on 22 July, 2016.
