During the time of unusual political turmoil surrounding US President Donald Trump, the 89th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre here on Sunday night under three-tiered security perimeter by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

This year, the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards witnessed a lot of politically motivated acceptance speeches and jokes from the likes of Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis and Julia Louis Dreyfus to name a few.

While some of the most prominent jokes of host Jimmy Fallon targetted Trump, what made worldwide headlines was Meryl Streep’s passionate acceptance speech deriding the US President for making fun of a disabled reporter.

The 3-time Academy Award winning actress, who has been nominated for a record 20th time for her role in ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’, may very well get back at Trump who called her “Hillary lover” and “the most overrated actress”.

Notably, Meryl Streep will also be presenting one of the awards at the 89th Academy Awards.

For the second straight year, Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Dolby Theatre will be tented. Before they get to the red carpet, the 3300 guests will have to make their way through a three-tiered security perimeter, reports variety.com.

“We have planned for all contingencies, from protests to even a potential terrorist attack and that is all built into the security plan, which is built on concentric rings of security,” Commander Blake Chow said.

The department’s Major Crimes Division and Intelligence Division have been on the lookout for threats against the Oscars and had not detected any as the weekend approached, Chow said.
