Young student S Anitha was an aspiring medical student but she ended up committing suicide when Tamil Nadu was not made exempt from National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) 2017. Many celebrities have condoled her death on social media but ‘Mersal’ actor Vijay went a step further.

Vijay, one of the top Kollywood stars, personally went and met Anitha’s father to offer his condolences. Anitha’s brother Manikandan was also present when he was there.

Thapathay Vijay as he is called is known not to make any political statements but his visit to Anitha’s house made a strong statement.

Kamal Haasan has been one of the loudest voices in denouncing NEET and though Vijay didn’t make any statement about NEET, his consolation of Anitha’s family shows that he was upset with her suicide over this issue.

In the past, Vijay’s actions have made statements more than his words – he went and met Anna Hazare during his fast in 2011. He also went to the Marina Beach during the Jallikattu protests and posted a video backing the Tamil tradition.

Pictures of his visit to Anitha’s house were posted on Twitter.
