Putting an end to all speculations regarding the reports of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh playing the role legendary Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev, trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Monday confirmed the news via his Twitter handle.

Ranveer Singh who is currently gearing up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama ‘Padmavati’ is all set to play the role of former Indian skipper Kapil Dev in ‘1983’. Helmed by Kabir Khan, the movie will be based on Kapil Dev’s life as well as 1983 Cricket World Cup that the Indian team won.

Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle to share the news, he writes, “#BreakingNews: Ranveer Singh will turn cricketer #KapilDev in Kabir Khan’s sports-based film… #1983 #WorldCup.”

Although there were speculation that Kapil’s role will be played by Arjun Kapoor, Kabir has now revealed that his first choice was always Ranveer Singh. Kabir was quoted saying, ” “As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup. I had no idea that from that day onwards cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. He even added, “And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”

‘1983’ is written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and will be will be co-produced by Phantom Films and the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), Vishnu Vardhan Induri.
