Saif Ali Khan’s newly released Hindi movie Chef has apparently bombed at the box-office as it managed to collect a meagre Rs 1 crore on its opening day. Clearly, the fortunes are refusing to shine on Saif Ali Khan as Chef is headed to be another failure in the long list of flop movies of the actor. If this movie fails to deliver, then this will be the sixth consecutive commercial disaster of the Bollywood actor.

Renowned film critic Taran Adarsh shared the movie’s gross collection on his Twitter account. He wrote: “Chef has a shockingly low start. Friday ₹ 1.05 cr. India biz. Need to witness massive growth on Sat and Sun to sustain.”

Chef is an official remake of a 2014 Hollywood movie of the same name starring Jon Favreau in the lead role. Saif Ali Khan’s Chef tells a story about a chef who loses his job in New York after getting into an altercation with a customer. He then moves back to India to spend some time with his family but decides to extend his stay somehow.

Once his family comes to know that Saif the chef has lost his job, they push him to take up some work in the country only. He ends up setting up a food truck with the help of his friend. In the movie Saif is seen showcasing his wonderful cooking skills and the Bollywood flick concludes with a clichéd happy ending.

Along with Saif Ali Khan, South India actress Padmapriya Janakiraman has played the female lead in the movie. Padmapriya, who made her debut in Bollywood with Chef, has done a host of critically-acclaimed films in regional languages — Malayalam, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

While Chef on the one hand has witnessed the lowest opening of 2017 so far, budding actor Varun Dhawan-starrer Judwaa 2 on the other is proving to be an all-around entertainer of the year and has amassed more than Rs 100 crore in revenues in its second week itself.
