Jamtara Producer Manish Trehan Booked, Alleged For Cheating A Businessman

Mumbai Police have registered a case against Manish Trehan, the producer of the hit web series *Jamtara*, after he allegedly defrauded a businessman, Nihar L, of ₹2.5 crore. According to reports, Trehan convinced Nihar, a 40-year-old finance firm owner, to invest in a business expansion and film project, which Trehan claimed would be featured on Amazon Prime.

The two met in October 2022 through a mutual contact, where Trehan, introducing himself as the director of the editing company Click On RM Pvt Ltd, promised to return the investment within a year with interest. Believing this, Nihar transferred ₹2 crore via an online transaction.

By October 2023, when the repayment was due, Trehan visited Nihar’s office with a man introduced as a senior official from a prominent OTT platform. Trehan then claimed the money had been used to produce a nearly completed film, with just the editing left, and requested an additional ₹50 lakh to cover these final expenses. Trusting Trehan again, Nihar transferred the additional sum on October 5, 2023.

This time, Trehan provided a written loan agreement and issued four post-dated cheques, promising repayment by March 2024. However, when Nihar attempted to deposit the cheques, they were rejected due to a stop payment order. After Trehan became unreachable and allegedly blocked Nihar’s calls, the businessman reported the matter to the police. An investigation is now underway.
