Manish Sisodia on Saturday said he sought a CBI probe as he claimed that Anil Baijal, former lieutenant governor suddenly changed his stand on the opening of liquor stores in unsanctioned areas.
“The cabinet’s policy was earlier given a nod by former LG, but the decision was later retracted, leading to a loss of worth thousands of crores. Under whose pressure was this decision changed? I hope the investigation is carried out fairly,” said Sisodia.
The Delhi excise policy has become a crossroads between the Aam Aadmi Party and the central government. Even Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena had written to the CBI, recommending an inquiry into the liquor policy approved last year by the AAP government.
“The new policy was executed in 2021. But the implementation was immobilized by a few individuals in power to provide an advantage to a select few. I have written to the central probe agency, urging them to investigate why this happened,” said deputy CM.
He further added, that 849 stores in the national capital region were unevenly scattered. To avoid instances like hooch, the new policy was to be implemented for equitable distribution. The former Lt scrutinized the policy and suggested devising some changes. The revision was given a nod by him in June.”
While reading the line twice, the deputy CM stressed that the “former LG didn’t object to the setting up of liquor shops in the unsanctioned areas. The decision was changed without prior discussion with the cabinet, allegedly incurring a loss of thousands of crores to the government.”
