The ED summoned Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha on Thursday in connection with alleged money laundering in the Patra Chawl redevelopment case.

The ED summoned Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha on Thursday in connection with alleged money laundering in the Patra Chawl redevelopment case.

The summons came hours after Raut’s ED remand was extended by the court in money laundering case.

During the court hearing on Thursday, the ED stated that an amount worth Rs.1.08 crore was received in Varsha Raut’s account from unrelated persons.

The ED has accused the Sena MP’s wife and alleged associates of financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl and related financial property transactions.

A special court on Thursday extended Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s ED custody until Monday, August 8.

Raut emphasised the poor condition of the room where he is being held after interrogation. Raut told the court that he was a heart patient and thus found the room suffocating and lacking ventilation, which the ED denied, claiming that the room was air-conditioned.

The ED, eventually agreed to find alternative arrangements for the Sena leader that provided adequate ventilation. In his order, special judge M G Deshpande stated, “The ED shall take all steps in view of the manner in which accused is allowed to stay after his interrogation, given the background of his health. Accused is at liberty to point out if arrangement is not made.”
