A priest allegedly burned himself on fire on Thursday morning under the strain of constantly being asked to leave the property by the temple trust, according to the police.
The event took place inside the Laxmi Narayan temple, on Thursday, which is situated in Shankar Vihar near the Murlipura police station in Jaipur. As a result of his serious burn injuries, he has been admitted to Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
ACP Pramod Swamy and a team arrived at the location as soon as they received the information. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory Division (FSL) also arrived at the location.
They said that the priest, Giriraj Sharma, set himself on fire by dousing himself with combustible material outside the home of Moolchand Maan, the previous president of the temple committee.
According to them, Sharma has 80 percent burns and is being treated at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the West Vandita Rana, the preliminary inquiry has shown that Sharma was being compelled to leave the temple by the temple trust.
Sharma, who resided with his family on the grounds of the temple, was reportedly stressed out as a result of the ongoing pressure.
According to Rana, a case has been opened against three to four people based on a complaint made by the victim’s wife.
According to police, a forensic team was dispatched to gather evidence on the scene, and CCTV footage from cameras nearby is being analysed.
