35 new cases have been reported of novel Langya Henipavirus (LayV). The virus has been detected in throat swab samples from febrile patients in eastern China.

There have been no deaths from the new virus till now.

The early patients of the virus are mainly farmers, who have reported fatigue, cough, loss of appetite, and aches as symptoms.

The virus is supposed to have come in through zoonosis process. A zoonosis is an infectious disease jump from animals to humans. Langya is part Henipavirus genus, which has negative orientation with a single-stranded RNA genome.

Chuang also mentioned that within a week or two, Taiwan’s labs will start developing a standardised method for genome sequencing.

Currently, there is no vaccination for the Langya virus, hence the basic way is supportive care to treat zoonotic disease complications.
