The FIRs filed against suspended BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma in connection with her controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad in a TV program were transferred to Delhi by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Nupur Sharma will be given protection from arrest till the investigation is completed. Until the next hearing date for the complaints against Sharma, “no coercive action” may be taken against Sharma, the Supreme Court ruled last month.
“In the light of the subsequent events, the concern of this Court is how to ensure that the petitioner is able to seek alternate remedy. In order to explore such modality, we issue notice,” said a bench of Justices Surya Kant and J B Pardiwala.
On July 18, Nupur Sharma submitted a new appeal, asking to be protected from arrest and have her cases merged.
