23 Grand Slam title holder, Serena Williams announces retirement from tennis

American tennis player Serena Williams announced retirement from Tennis. William planned to retire from the sport she ruled with 23 Grand Slam titles following the US Open, which begins later this month.


Williams said that she decided retirement because she wants to focus on her family life and grow her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures.


Williams said, “I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me. I started a family. I want to grow that family.”

Serena Williams is the most successful female tennis player of the Open era. She is the second most successful of all-time who have won 23 Grand Slam titles.


During an interview, Williams said that she did not know whether she would be physically prepared for her final at the US Open, but she would “try.”
She added,”I’m not looking for some ceremonial, final on-court moment”.

Williams is turning 41 next month, holds 73 career singles titles, 23 career doubles titles and over $94 million in career winnings.
