Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party harshly on Thursday during a state-wide rally in Bihar and declared that all left- and secular-leaning forces in Bihar and across India will unite against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 general election.

As part of the party’s nationwide campaign from September 14 to September 22 against the Modi-led BJP administration, the CPI-Bihar M’s state committee organised a sizable state-wide public meeting from 35 districts at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

Yechury recalled the 1975 Emergency, saying that the entire state of Bihar battled it and was successful in rescuing democracy, the nation, and the constitutional order.

“It is now once more necessary to defend democracy, secularism, the Constitution, and the nation against the BJP-RSS. In order to overthrow the Modi government in 2024, all left-leaning and secular groups in Bihar and throughout India will unite. The route to Indraprastha would start from Pataliputra once more, as it did in 1974 “At his rally, Yechury remarked.

The party’s leader in Bihar, Ashok Dhawale, denounced the policies of the Centre government, claiming that they had hurt the working class, the peasantry, agricultural workers, women, youth, and students while also causing enormous price increases, unemployment, poverty, and hunger.

Dhawale claimed that the government was “honourably selling off the country to its crony corporates” and was implementing the British imperialist Divide and Rule strategy based on caste and religion.

Yechury met separately with Lalu Prasad, the president of the RJD, and Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, on Wednesday in Patna to discuss opposition unity.

He posted on Twitter, saying, “When I visited Nitish Kumar in Patna today, he welcomed me with open arms (@NitishKumar). In order to protect the Indian Constitution and the unity and integrity of our nation, we took action in response to our deliberations in Delhi by organising the widest coalition of secular democratic forces.”

About his encounter with Lalu Prasad Yadav, he stated, “The conversation I had with Lalu ji (@laluprasadrjd) today at his Patna house was quite enjoyable. We talked about how crucial it is to preserve India’s Constitution and the unalienable human rights that are currently under attack.”
