The world is observing November 14 as World Diabetes Day, a disease which people have when their blood sugar (blood glucose) becomes too high. Blood glucose is the main of energy and comes from the food you eat where as an insulin, is a hormone made by the pancreas. Insulin is responsible to extract glucose from food to make it reach into your cells and used for energy. It is advisable for diabetic patients to maintain their blood pressure and cholesterol as risk of cardiovascular diseases are higher in these patients. 

There are generally two types of Diabetes which are mostly common to occur in people. Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2. People suffering from diabetes Type 1, their bodies function to transfer glucose extracted from food to be used by cells suffers fluctuations as their body does not produce insulin. As per a study, approximately 10% of all diabetes cases are type 1. While in Type 2 Diabetes, the body does not produce enough insulin for proper function. The study says that worldwide, almost 90% of all cases of diabetes are Type 2. 

Though diabetes is caused due to improper availability of insulin in the body, people suffering from this suffer from frequent urination, hunger, weight gain, unusual weight loss, fatigue, intense thirst, cuts and bruises that do not heal. Some also suffer from male sexual dysfunction, numbness and tingling in hands and feet. 

Food items that diabetes patients should consider including to their daily diet

  • Spinach, beans, oatmeal, fish, nonfat yogurt, almonds, nonstrachy vegetable, wild salmon, egg white, avocado.
  • According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), food having lean proteins and that are low in saturated fat are good for diabetic patients like fish, salmon, turkey and also seafood with omega-3 fats.
  • Whole grains such as wild rice, quinoa, whole grain breads and cereals containing fiber are good for digestive health.
  • Try to include berries in your nonfat Greek yogurt.
  • Green veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, carrots.
  • Blueberries, as they insoluble fiber which helps in exiting fat from your body.
  • Diabetics should use Olive oil while cooking their food. It helps the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
