According to civic data on vector-borne diseases in Delhi, August, September and October have had the maximum number of dengue cases in the past. As the capital witnesses a new wave of the infection in the ongoing monsoon, health authorities and doctors have warned that the actual outbreak has not hit yet, and the upcoming weeks will decide the severity of the outbreak this year.

Dengue Numbers Already Rising

So far this season, Delhi has registered 1,379 cases of dengue, including 200 people from out of Delhi. The doctors of Aakash Healthcare have confirmed an apparent increase in the number of dengue cases, stating that infections have been detected in July, and the spike has increased in August. The doctors say that the numbers of dengue and swine flu have increased since July, and it became evident especially in August.

Why This Period Is Crucial?

The lab data shows clearly that there is a tendency towards the increase in the number of dengue test results from August till October annually. Authorities indicate that this period can be considered the one when breeding conditions are favorable due to the rains and high levels of humidity, so it usually decides the fate of a season – whether it will stay moderate or turn into an outbreak.

Authorities Assure Preparedness

Recently, Union Health Minister JP Nadda presided over a high-level review to assess the state of the city’s preparations for the peak of the dengue season, instructing officials to strengthen surveillance, prepare hospitals and conduct vector control activities citywide. At the same time, the officials underlined the importance of early diagnosis, prompt treatment, coordination between the health departments, municipalities and local administrations, as well as availability of beds, medications and skilled personnel in case of a surge of cases.
