The Supreme Court granted Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s appeal on Monday, overturning the Jharkhand High Court’s decision to accept the maintainability of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) involving shell businesses reportedly linked to state Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his cronies.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the state government filed an appeal against the Jharkhand High Court ruling. The Jharkhand government and chief minister Hemant Soren have petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn a high court decision that upheld the maintainability of a PIL involving shell businesses purportedly linked to Hemant Soren and his allies.
The state government of Jharkhand has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, contesting the ruling of the Jharkhand High Court.
In its 79-page judgement, the Jharkhand High Court dismissed two PILs filed against Soren and rejected the arguments made by senior counsel Kapil Sibal and Mukul Rohatgi (questioning the maintainability of the two PILs brought against CM and his allies).
Jharkhand CM took to social media and tweeted “Satyamev Jayate”.
