The host England will take on the Lankan lions in this match of the ICC World cup 2019. The English men will have an eye on the semifinalist birth for the world cup whereas Sri Lanka will need to play out of their skin to beat or challenge this English line-up. Sri Lanka has not played well for a long period of time to challenge the good teams and their position on the points table shows exactly that. Their batting has failed against good bowling and bowling have failed to perform well even in bowling friendly conditions. They were thrashed by Ne Zealanders on a seaming pitch and later on when Bowlers had a chance to challenge the Kiwi batsmen, they failed to stop Guptill and Munro’s onslaught.

England, on the other hand, has been in tremendous form and barring one match against Pakistan, they have beaten every team with outstanding hitting in batting and some good bowling performances led by the promising Jofra Archer. he has strengthened the English bowling line up and backed up with the power-packed batting line up, England is a team to beat in this world cup.

ENG need 32 from 26 balls

Back to back sixes from Stokes and he has turned the game on here again. Udana has bowled his slower balls in his arc and he has dispatched both the balls over his head for massive sixes. This match is on a knife-edge.

Malinga is back for his last over and he is bowling against Stokes who is the man standing between SL and a great win. A flick and ball landed just short of the midwicket fielder. Malinga finished his 10 overs quota and took 4 wickets at 43 runs. What a performance from the legend.

ENG 186/9 in 44 overs

Slowe ball from Udana and Archer gone, holed out at the long on boundary. England has just crumbled under pressure from the good bowling and smart captaincy from Karunaratne. Stokes will have to swing here because Wood can't score quick runs and they don't have any wicket left in the change room.

ENG 185/8 in 43 overs

Malinga superb in his 9th over and England needs 48 balls from the remaining 42 balls. Captain Eoin Morgan is seen nervous in the dressing room and he will rue the wickets thrown by the English batsmen on easy balls.

ENG 178/8 in 41 overs

2 wickets in an over dor de Silva. Adil Rashid is gone in a similar fashion with Woakes. Bit short outside off and Rashid went back to cut that and Perera the keeper, takes an absolute beauty. Sri Lanka has turned things around quite dramatically here.

ENG 176/7 in 40.1 overs

ENG 159/5 in 37 overs

Off-spinner de Silva back in the attack against these two left-handers. Will they look to take him on? Karunaratne had brought him in for that gamble only but they didn't take the bait from the spinner.

ENG 154/5 in 36 overs

Stokes keeps the England team going with some help from Perera in that over. A short ball on the pads flicked through the gap for four by Stokes. 85 needed form 96 balls and wickets hold the key here in this match. One great spell of wickets by any bowler and match is firmly in Sri Lanka's grip.

ENG 144/5 in 32.3 overs

Butler is gone now, or is he? yes, he is. A classical yorker from Malinga and Butler missed it in an effort to flick it past square leg. This match is wide open now. With Butler gone now, if England will need quick runs they will rely on Moeen Ali. Will he perform under pressure?

ENG 140/4 in 32 overs

A lucky boundary on the last ball of the over and England are marching ahead with the required run rate now. Butler is a free-flowing batsman and he will play his shots. Sri Lanka will be hoping to get his wicket early.

ENG 131/4 in 31 overs

Butler is the new man in and gets a leg stump half volley. He is off the mark on the first ball. He's the danger man here for Sri Lanka. Maling picked up his 50th world cup wickets with that wicket of Root.

Root gone as match hangs in balance

An appeal for caught behind down the leg side against Root and Sri Lanka has opted to review the decision. Snicko picks up the sound of the bat and Root is on his way back to the Pavillion. Malinga strikes.

ENG 122/2 in 29 overs

Stokes has broken the shackles put by Sri Lankan bowlers by bowling well till now and he is looking good here for England. Not a good sign here for Sri Lanka. Mendis is back for his new over. He will try to correct his bowling figure in this over.

ENG 96/3 in 26 overs

Root has his fifty. Jeevan Mendis has been brought in and he bowled a decent over to Root and Stokes. Only runs from that over and England is chipping away at the runs with singles and doubles. Sri Lanka searching for wicket here.

ENG 91/3 in 25 overs

ENG 77/3 in 21 overs

ENG 73/3 in 19 overs

Ben Stokes is the new man in and he will look to play steadily with root here to stop any further damage. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will believe they are in the game with one more wicket here.

ENG 73/3 in 18.4 overs

Gone!!! A big wicket and what a catch by Udana in his follow through. Morgan is gone now and the match is still wide open. A big shout on the 2nd ball of that Udana's over but the umpire thought it was too high to be given out and SL didn't opt for review either.

ENG 70/2 in 18 overs

Thisara Perera is back with his third over and Morgan playing cautiously here to play a long inning, quite a contrast with the inning he played against Afghanistan. Root has looked solid from the ball one he faced today.

ENG 68/2 in 17 overs

Poor over from Ishuru Udana in these circumstances. He strayed on to the pads of both Morgan and Root and was taken for runs on the leg side. He must bowl to his field now or the batsmen will start taking him for runs more easily

ENG 58/2 in 16 overs

Thisara Perera bowled a good over but that is not good enough for Sri Lanka now. they need wickets in clusters and they need to pick now before Morgan will start launching for big hits. They need to strike here.

ENG 53/2 in 15 overs

de Sliva continues from the other end and he is not able to pitch his balls consistently in the good areas to trouble Morgan every ball and Root is not finding him tough to deal with. Karunaratne has to look to other options now.

ENG 50/2 in 14 overs

Thisara Perera comes into the attack and will look to hit the deck guard here to extract something out of the pitch. Thisara Perera has a knack of picking important wickets at the crucial junctures if the game and Sri Lanka will hope he will turn good today.

ENG 47/2 in 13 overs

Morgan under pressure against the off-spinner de Silva here. Morgan will play his shots and that can create chances for Sri Lanka but they will need to bowl well for him to take chances against the bowling.

ENG 42/2 in 12 overs

Pradeep has bowled his heart out in this match but has not got the reward. He bowled a terrific yorker to root in the last over which he dug out uncomfortably. The match situation demands continuous strikes for Sri Lanka.

ENG 41/2 in 11 overs

de Silva, the off-spinner comes in to bowl after the end of the 1st power play and gives away only 3 runs to Morgan and Root. Sri Lankan bowlers will have to lift their game here to defend the total they have set for the English batsmen.

ENG 38/2 in 10 overs

Pradeep has bowled well today in this match without much luck. He troubled Morgan in that over but couldn't find an outside edge for the slips waiting for the chances. They will need to bowl well on the stump line and be patient there.

ENG 35/2 in 9 overs

Pitched up on the first ball and Morgan played a perfect cover drive. He is in tremendous hitting form in this world cup. Malinga came back pretty well afterwards as he pulled back his length a bit and bowled his variation as well. Root drives on the last ball past mid-off for four and ENG back on the running rack here.

ENG 26/2 in 8 overs

A maiden over. Pradeep bowling well here to Root. Full length and on the 5th stump line, forcing Root to come on the front foot. If they can take one of these two, They are in with a real chance in this match.

ENG 26/2 in 7 overs

Floated on the off stump on the 2nd ball and Vince gets the big stride out down the pitch and drives that past mid-off for four. Malinga needs to careful here. He follows up with a poorer ball, a half volley on the leg stump and Vince didn't miss out on that either. Back to back boundaries here, but Malinga hit back with a perfect outswing, luring Vince to drive at that away from his body and the outside edge carried to only slip.

ENG 16/1 in 6 overs

A good over from Nuvan Pradeep and he is testing Vince's patience here. He almost had him when he slashed drive the ball but it landed just short of the third man fielder Thisara Perea. Malinga needs to be tighter from the other end.

ENG 15/1 in 5 overs

English batsmen are opening their shoulders now with some inconsistent bowling from Malinga in that over. They will be patient with the new ball because they have an explosive middle order to chase any total down and they have a very modest total to chase here.

ENG 10/1 in 4 overs

Poor bowling from Pradep in that over. he bowled short and wide deliveries when he should have bowled full length in and around off stump line. 6 runs from that over and Root is up and running here at the oval.

ENG 4/1 in 3 overs

A maiden over from Malinga. He threatened the outside edge of Vince's bat on many occasions. The ball is swinging here for Sri Lankan pacers and they must make the most of it if they are trying to defend this total of 230 odd runs.

ENG 4/1 in 2 overs

A probing over Nuvan Pradeep comes to an end with Root beaten all ends up on the last ball of the over. The new ball is moving for Sri Lanka and they will try to pick up some more wickets to expose English middle order against the new ball.

ENG 3/1 in 1 over

A decent over from Malinga. He did what was expected out of Malinga and they will look to take at least one wicket more now to apply some pressure on the English line up. Root is in sublime form and he will look to attack.

ENG 1/1 in 0.2 over

James Vince and Jonny Bairstow are at the crease to chase this modest total set by Sri Lanka. Lasith Malinga with the new ball to start the proceeding for the Lankan lions here and He strikes in his first over, but Bairstow has opted for review.
