NZ completes a well deserved victory

An unbeaten inning of 106 by the kiwi captain Kane Williamson powered blackcaps to a sensational victory in alow scoring thriller in Birmingham. The momentum of the match was completely changed the moment de Grandhomme walked out to bat and South Africa never came back from the mistakes they committed under pressure.

NZ 225/5 in 46 overs

South Africa has been doing what they do best in pressure situations. Poor bowling and even worse fielding. NZ has been gifted this match by poor execution by the Proteas when pressure was upon them.

NZ 216/5 in 45 overs

What an inning by Collin de Grandhomme. Changed the momentum of the match in the matter of a few balls. The only batsman to play with a strike rate of more than 100. South Africa has bowled poorly at him but that doesn't take away the good inning away from him.

NZ 211/5 from 44 overs

31 runs needed from 30 balls. South Africa has been very poor in the last half an hour in the filed. they have bowled loose balls, dropped catches and left vacant areas where there should have been fielders catching in.

NZ 196/5 in 42 overs

Poor efforts on the filed and lack of match awareness will probably cost South Africa this match. A clear edge went unnoticed by Quinton de Kock and then a runout chance missed by Rabada.

173/5 in 38 overs

What a brilliant over by Tahir. Three wicket-taking opportunities. Twice in the over ball went around the short mid wicket fielder Miller who made valiant efforts but could not hold on the catches.

NZ 148/ 5 in 34 overs

94 runs needed and de Grandhomme batting with Williamson. South Africa must strike at least once more to keep the pressure going on NZ batsmen. Collin de Grandhomme can't be kept quiet for longer and it will give bowlers chance.

NZ 137/5 in 32.2 overs

Morris strikes again with the big wicket of Neesham and NZ need more than 10 runs now. Next man in will be Collin de Grandhomme. Faf du Plessis should bring Tahir against him.

NZ 125 runs from 31 overs

117 runs needed from 18 over and the required rate jumps to 6.5 run pers per over. South Africa picks one wicket here and the game will shift towards South Africa again. These two batsmen are playing risk-free cricket.

NZ 119/4 in 29 overs

Williamson completes his yet another fifty.123 runs needed from 120 balls and the required rate can play a role later if South Africa can chip in with two wickets here. Neesham is a big striker of the cricket ball and he needs to go if South Africa is to win this match.

NZ 109/4 in 27 overs

Neesham turning it on against the Proteas bowlers. NZ will look to play it safe now. more than 125 still needed and a couple of wickets here will make it really difficult for them to chase this score.

NZ 103/4 in 24 overs

A testing over from Tahir ends without any reward for him. Neesham holding up well along with Williamson against some good bowling from South Africa. Williamson is rock solid at the other end, standing firmly between NZ and South Africa win.

NZ 97/4 in 22 overs

A fiery spell by Morris has turned the game into South Africa's grip. The wicket of Williamson is the one precious wicket the Proteas are chasing badly.

NZ 80/3 in 18 overs

Imran Tahir tested Williamson with his variation in the air and off the pitch. Two balls threatened to take his wicket and it was very close for Williamson.

NZ 76/3 in 17 overs

A big wicket of Ross Taylor in that over by Morris. Strangled down the leg side of a loose ball and NZ are three down now. The game opens up if Thair will strike from the other end.

NZ 74/2 in 16 overs

A brilliant 1st over from Tahir as he almost caught Williamsonhanging on the back foot on a fullish delivery. the leading edge fell just short of the diving Tahir.

NZ 72/2 in 15 overs

Guptill slipped in the crease while pulling a Phehlukwayo's delivery and he's gone. What a lucky break for the Proteas. They should make the most out of this piece of luck going in their favour.

NZ 61/1 in 14 overs

Both Williamson and Guptill look settled now and that is not a good sign for the Proteas who has already lost three matches in this world cup. They will need to remove them quickly and then put pressure on the middle order.

NZ 53/1 in 12 overs

some very good shots by NZ batsmen and inconsistent lengths from the south African bowlers have allowed NZ to get away with the score now. They need to pull it back with quick wickets otherwise their world cup dreams will be almost over today.

NZ 43/1 in 10 overs

A probing over from Morris end the mandatory power play and NZ going along nicely. They will hope to continue for a bit longer. Ross Taylor is in good knick but Williamson will look to settle down here for a big one.

NZ 37/1 in 8 overs

Ngidi still not getting it right and du Plessis should go to Morris now. Ngidi looks rusty after an injury lay-off and he needs to go off now otherwise Guptill and Williamson will settle down.

NZ 32/1 in 6 overs

13 runs off that Ngidi's over and the pressure is released from the other end. South Africa needs to maintain pressure from both ends to bring wickets.

NZ 19/1 in 5 overs

End of probing over from Rabada to Williamson. This is another big battle within the battle between the proteas and blackcaps. South Africa will look to dismiss him early as he is tough to get out when set.

NZ 15/1 in 3 overs

change of angle and Rabada picks put Munro on an incoming delivery. South Africa have made inroad and the captain Kane Williamson walks into bat at number 3 for the blackcaps.

NZ 12/0 in 2 overs

End of a probing over by Lungi Ngidi. South African pacemen need to hit strides straightway as they have too many runs in the bank to defend. They will have to take some early wickets to keep the pressure on the NZ middle order.

NZ 9/0 in 1 over

9 runs from the first over and NZ is up and running from the first over itself. A clear difference in the intent by both the team and it will ultimately decide the fate of the match.

NZ begin their chase

Munro and Guptill walk out to bat against Rabad and Ngidi. Pitch is tricky and they need to play their shots carefully. They are free-flowing batsmen but Rabad will come hard at them.

SA 241/6 at the end of the inning

van der Dussen played a magnificent inning for the Proteas to enable them with a score defendable before their bowlers. It was his heroics and some decent innings by Amla and Miller and SA have posted 242 for the kiwis to chase.

SA 226/6 in 48 overs

Six of the first ball but Henry came back remarkably well for the kiwis. He didn't give any pace at all for Dussen to work with. Dussen will be disappointed for missing some deliveries in the slot.

SA 218/6 in 47 overs

Ferguson too pacy for Phehlukwayo and it was a poor decision by the team management to send him ahead of Morris who has a proven track record of smashing bowlers in the death overs.

SA 216/5 in 46 overs

Dussen batting with injured hand smashed boult for boundary and took 8 runs from that over. Only if SA had shown this intent with some more overs to go, they could well have posted ecent score by now.

SA 208/5 in 45 overs

back to back boundaries on the first two balls but Ferguson hit back by removing Miller. He had to hit that shot harder over third man as it was longer but he couldn't time that too well. Boult took an easy catch there.

SA 198/4 in 44 overs

Miller finally got one out from his middle and he hit boult for a massive six over mid-wicket. They need to hit a lot of them to post a decent total here.

SA 187/4 in 43 overs

Miller struggling for the timing here. He is on 17 from 28 balls and he needs to go if South Africa has any chance to post a total they can back themselves to defend on this two-paced pitch.

SA 183/4 in 42 overs

Good over for SA. 10 runs came off that over from Santer on the back of a massive six by Dussen over long on. The batsmen need 2-3 overs like this to lift the score close to 250.

SA 169/4 in 40 overs

Santner giving nothing to hit to these tow batsmen here. they need to hit boundary at least per over now to get some respectable total to defend here.

SA 166/4 in 39 overs

10 overs left now in the inning and the batsmen will try to get at least 70-80 runs from here. They need to pick one bowler to target for 15-20 run over here to go to that desired score.

SA 156/4 in 37 overs

Grandhomme finished his spell of 10 overs giving away only 33 runs. Miller is trying to push hard for quick runs on this sluggish pitch. The inning has gone at one speed and these batsmen will need to shift the momentum in South Africa's favour.

SA 149/4 in 36 overs

Some energy is seen in South Africa as they are trying to collect as many runs as possible. They are going hard at first three balls of the over to make the most of the over remaining.

SA 140/4 in 34 overs

second drinks breaks and South Africa is at a middling score due to batting without intent in the first power play and it continued for another 10 overs as well. Regular loss of wickets didn't help the cause as well.

SA 137/4 in 33 overs

Dropped in the last over of Grandhomme, Markram tried to hit him over his head but the leading edge carried straight to the deep cover boundary and Munro took it easily. David Miller walks in now.

SA134/3 in 32 overs

A very good over for South Africa that one from BOULT. He has lost control on his swing and lengths today. SA catching up now wit boundaries every over. They need to reach close to 200 in 40 overs.

SA 127/3 in 31 overs

A simple catch dropped off de Grandhomme of Markram by Boult on the deep fine leg boundary. Boult has a history of some great catches but he dropped a dolly there and he's back for a fresh spell.

SA 123/3 in 30 overs

8 runs off that Santner's over and SA up and running again. Markram trying to tee off here but bowlers not allowing him. One flighted delivery in that over and he cashed in with a superb cover drive.

SA 115/3 in 29 overs

SA struggling with run rate here and they are not being able to hit the balls in gaps for even singles now. Santer has been the pick of the bowler with 24 runs in 6 overs and has taken Amla's precious wicket.

SA 112/3 in 28 overs

Pitched on leg stump and it turned big to beat Amla's outside edge and hit the top of off stump. A dream delivery for any left-arm spinner and Amla long and fighting inning comes to an end. van der Dussen comes to bat at number 5 for SA.

SA 108/2 in 27 overs

SA now catching up now to run rate of 4 runs per over and theyneed to go bi and at a greater speed. Amla has hit his slowest fifty till date and he is trying to anchor the inning for SA.

SA 102/2 in 26 overs

South Africa needs one boundary per over to score 7 runs per over. They need at least a score of 280 to challenge this kiwi batting team with Taylor and Williamson in fine form.

SA 98/2 in 25 overs

SA has finally got going now. Amla hit one boundary past mid on and some singles in the over make it a 7 run over for SA. Markram needs to change the tempo from the other end as well.

SA 91/2 in 24 overs

a bottom handed smash from Markram gives South Africa a much-needed boundary. Heis looking settled now and he needs to hit some boundaries to catch up with run rate required to post a good total on the board.
