‘Attempt To Make Fake Narrative..’: Kolkata Police Refutes Claims Of Clash Amid Kali Idol Immersion

Tension flared in the Rajabazar area of Kolkata following clashes during the immersion procession of a Kali idol. Reports of stone-pelting during the event sparked concerns among residents, leading to the deployment of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and increased Kolkata Police presence to maintain order.

Kolkata police claim false narrative

However, Kolkata Police, in an official statement, refuted claims of targeted stone-pelting, attributing the unrest to a dispute over parking rather than religious hostility.

Posting on the social media handle X, Kolkata police said, “An attempt has been made on social media to create a fake narrative about incident at Narkeldanga . No Kali Puja immersion procession was attacked. Issue was related to parking of a bike which led to fight between two individuals and further escalated.”

They also added, “However police intervened timely and brought situation under control. The scheduled Kali Puja immersion procession was completed peacefully and without any hindrance.”

Political Accusations and Criticism of State Leadership

The incident quickly took on a political dimension, with prominent BJP leaders criticizing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her handling of the situation. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT cell, condemned the state government’s response and called on Banerjee to either take immediate action or consider stepping down, claiming that Hindu communities were specifically targeted. Suvendu Adhikari, another BJP leader, alleged that the state’s approach to appeasement politics has fostered an environment that undermines the safety of Hindu religious events.
