Bengaluru Traffic Alert: Lowry Underpass Closed For 45 Days; Political Row Over City’s Infrastructure

Bengaluru commuters will face traffic restrictions for 45 days as the Lowry Underpass Road remains closed for railway bridge work. Starting February 22, 2025, the ban on vehicular movement, except two-wheelers, has been imposed to facilitate the construction.

Traffic Restrictions and Alternative Routes

As per the Bengaluru Traffic Police advisory, all vehicles, except two-wheelers, traveling from ITI BMTC Depot 24 towards Lowry Underpass Road will be restricted.

To avoid inconvenience, alternative routes have been suggested: Vehicles heading towards Whitefield Main Road and Outer Ring Road can take Old Madras Road, cross the Hanging Bridge, and make a U-turn at Pai Layout before continuing their journey.

Authorities urge motorists to follow the new routes and plan their travel accordingly to prevent congestion.

DK Shivakumar’s Remark Sparks Political Controversy

Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar’s statement on Bengaluru’s infrastructure crisis has triggered a fresh political debate. Speaking about the city’s crumbling roads and waterlogging issues, he remarked that Bengaluru “cannot be fixed in 2-3 years, not even by God”, emphasizing the need for a long-term strategic plan to address its persistent infrastructure problems.

The opposition BJP swiftly criticized his remarks, accusing the Congress-led state government of failing to improve Bengaluru’s condition.

A BJP leader told Times Now: “Whenever a non-Congress government was in power, significant progress took place. But now, DK Shivakumar lacks the capability to develop Bengaluru. If they cannot manage the city, they should step down instead of making excuses.”

As the city continues to battle pothole-ridden roads and urban congestion, the political blame game over Bengaluru’s infrastructure crisis is intensifying.
