Atishi Sworn In As Delhi’s Third Woman Chief Minister

AAP leader Atishi sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi today, September 21, 2024, following her appointment by President Droupadi Murmu.In addition to her, five other newly appointed ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Imran Hussain, Kailash Gahlot, and Mukesh Ahlawat, who is the new MLA for Sultanpur Majra also took their oaths in the Delhi government.

The Union Home Ministry issued a gazette notification confirming, “The President is pleased to appoint Ms. Atishi as the Chief Minister, National Capital Territory of Delhi, effective from her swearing-in date.” She has also accepted the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister.

Kejriwal resigned on September 17, after which Atishi was nominated for the role after being elected as the leader of the AAP Legislature Party. Additionally, the President approved the appointments of five Cabinet Ministers: Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, Imran Hussain, and newcomer Mukesh Ahlawat. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Raj Niwas.

5:49 PM | Sep 21, 2024 | Union Minister Harsh Malhotra congratulated Atishi on her swearing-in as Delhi Chief Minister, expressing hope that she and the AAP government will prioritize the needs of the people in Delhi. He urged her to implement the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which Arvind Kejriwal had promised during the 2020 elections, to ensure that residents of Delhi can receive health insurance benefits of up to Rs 5 lakhs, similar to those available to citizens in other parts of the country.
