The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody until August 8 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. Kejriwal appeared before the court via video conferencing from Tihar Jail for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case involving the alleged liquor scam.
This extension follows the expiration of Kejriwal’s previous judicial custody, which was set to end today.
On July 18, the Delhi High Court reserved its decision on Kejriwal’s plea seeking two additional legal meetings with his lawyers through video conferencing from jail. The plea was opposed by the counsel for the jail authorities and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Justice Neena Bansal Krishna reserved the order after hearing submissions from the counsels. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta represented Kejriwal in the case.
Earlier, on July 1, the Rouse Avenue Court had denied Kejriwal’s request for two additional meetings with his lawyers via video conferencing from Tihar Jail. Special judge Kaveri Baweja dismissed the application, which sought directions for the jail authorities to facilitate the additional meetings.
