Delhi Police Enhance Security on UP-Delhi Border for Independence Day

As the nation marked its 78th Independence Day, East Delhi Police significantly ramped up security measures along the Uttar Pradesh border, implementing thorough checks and increased patrolling to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations.

DCP East Apurva Gupta told ANI that to maintain safety, the Delhi Police has been “rigorously checking all posts” and has ensured “no vehicles or individuals” are allowed near the Red Fort area.

“Picketing has been established on all routes leading to ITO and New Delhi, and we are conducting rigorous checks at all posts. We have also ensured that no suspicious vehicles or individuals are permitted towards the Red Fort area,” DCP Gupta said.

Further, DCP Gupta noted that Delhi and UP police are collaborating on vehicle checks at the border. “We have set up checkpoints and are conducting joint checks with UP police,” she added.

In East Delhi, police are also employing drone surveillance. DCP Shahdara Surendra Chaudhary detailed the security measures at the Shahdara and Apsara borders. “Shahdara district, being close to the Red Fort and having an interstate border, is a crucial area to secure. We have deployed adequate interstate forces,” DCP Chaudhary said. “All arrangements are in place, including monitoring with drones. Kite flying has been banned until noon.”

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North, Manoj Kumar Meena, emphasized that the measures aim to reduce human error and swiftly detect and address any suspicious activity. “Every year on August 15, Delhi Police implements strict security arrangements. This year, we are accommodating around 22,000 attendees comfortably. CCTVs have been installed around the Red Fort to enhance security,” DCP Meena said.
