Outside the Sandton Sun Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, Indian community members are ready to greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi with “dhols.”

When he arrived in Johannesburg on Tuesday, the Indian diaspora gathered inside the hotel. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the first part of his two-nation trip by flying into Johannesburg, South Africa. “To be in the Prime Minister’s presence is a true honor. Another member of the South African Indian community, who was anxiously awaiting PM Modi at the hotel, stated, “PM Modi is pushing India to new heights, therefore we welcome him here. At the airport, PM Modi was greeted by Paul Shipokosa Mashatile, the deputy president of South Africa. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi received a formal welcome.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was then entertained by a traditional dance performance by South African dancers. PM Modi approached the gathered members of the Indian diaspora after being given a hearty welcome. “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” were being chanted by the Indian diaspora.

Notably, PM Modi has accepted the invitation of Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, to attend the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg from August 22–24. The Prime Minister was formally welcomed upon arrival at the Waterkloof Air Force Base.

Today’s BRICS business meeting will be addressed by PM Modi later on. An Indian corporate team is visiting the nation to attend the corporate Tracks meetings, according to earlier comments from Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra.

A corporate delegation from India is also heading to South Africa for the 15th BRICS Summit in order to attend the corporate Tracks meetings as well as the gatherings of the BRICS Business Council, BRICS Women Business Alliance, and the BRICS Business Forum, according to Kwatra.

Later today, a discussion of the BRICS Business Leaders Forum will take held at the Sandton Convention Centre. Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition for South Africa, Ebrahim Patel, is the program’s director. The BRICS is hosting its first face-to-face meeting since 2019 in Johannesburg under the South African chairmanship of the group this year.

On January 1st, South Africa assumed the BRICS Chairship with the slogan “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism.”
