Some Hindu groups in Karnataka have requested permission to pray at the Jamia Masjid in Srirangapatna, saying that a Hanuman temple existed there before the mosque was built, amid the simmering Varanasi Gyanvapi Mosque issue.
Hindu organisations such as Narendra Modi Vichar Manch and Sri Ram Sene have also petitioned the Karnataka government to prevent Muslims from using the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) site as a prayer hall.

They’ve also petitioned the Mandya deputy commissioner, requesting permission to do pooja at the mosque.
Before the mosque was erected, Tipu Sultan’s communications to Persian monarchs suggested at the existence of a Hanuman temple, according to the groups.
“They constructed the mosque on top of the Hanuman temple.” A memorandum has been presented by Hindu organisations in Mandya. But, even before doing pooja, I believe the madrassa at the location should be removed, as well as the microphone and other equipment,” said Sri Ram Sene founder Pramod Muthalik.
