Beijing: China’s fifth Madame Tussauds wax museum will open in the Chongqing municipality area, authorities said on Tuesday.
Wax effigies of Prince William and his wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, were displayed since last week in the city as a promotion for the upcoming museum, Xinhua reported.
It will have sections devoted to Hollywood stars, sportsmen and women and celebrities from around the world, an official said.
The museum will be built by Britain’s Merlin Entertainment Group which also plans to open an aquarium and a Lego adventure park in the city.
With a history of over 200 years, Madame Tussauds has already opened in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Wuhan, with statues of celebrities including Jackie Chan, Yao Ming, Bill Gates and David Beckham.
Madame Tussaud’s wax museum is one of the major tourist attraction in London, and it has its branches spread out across the world. In Asia, it’s present in Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore and Wuhan.
Indian celebrities like Mahatma Gandhi, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan are some of the names who have been featured at the musuem.
