Chhath Puja Geet 2017: Chhath Puja has great significance in North India, mainly the Hindi heartland of Bihar and Jharkhand, and is also celebrated with equal zest in Uttar Pradesh and Nepal. Although the festival mainly originated in the state of Bihar but with time it grew in prominence and spread to other states. The ancient Hindu Vedic festival is not only limited to Indian borders as the diaspora performs Chhath Puja, which is dedicated to the Sun for life-sustaining bounties on earth, across the world with utmost zeal. The huge number of NRIs across the globe make it a truly ‘global’festival wherein a large number of devotees can be seen taking a dip in the waterbodies all over the Earth.

During the Chhath Puja, devotees observe fasting and abstain from drinking water. They also take part in holy bathing, stand in water for long durations and offer prayers to the rising and setting sun. The latter activities are performed mainly on the river banks. The Sun god and his wife are pleased on this special occasion for prosperity and well being while many devotees request the god and goddess to grant their wishes.
