On the attack on Deputy CM Vijay Sinha, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari says, “The Deputy Chief Minister travels with security. No worker from any other party can meet him. I had received information that the people there were very angry with him. The people have expressed their anger. From this, one can gauge that if this is the condition of the Deputy Chief Minister, then what will be the condition of the NDA?”

Unidentified individuals attacked the convoy of sitting CPI(ML) Liberation MLA Satyendra Yadav in the Manjhi assembly constituency of Saran district.  The MLA and other automobile occupants had fled the attack unharmed, according to a statement released by the Saran police, and a hunt was underway for “antisocial elements” involved.  (PTI)

Chirag Paswan, a union minister and leader of the LJP (Ram Vilas), voted in Khagaria during the first round of the Bihar Assembly elections.  “I have fulfilled my responsibility by casting my vote, and I would like every person to do the same to elect a government of their choice,” he declared after casting his ballot.  In response to Rahul Gandhi’s accusations of vote-rigging, Paswan said that the “Mahagathbandhan is losing the election” and asked the Congress to go to court if its allegations were true.

Today marked the start of the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, with voters casting ballots in 121 constituencies spread over 18 districts.  

Sixteen delegates from seven nations observed the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) plans to guarantee a fair and effective electoral process while polling took place, drawing attention to the state from across the world.  

Under the ECI’s International Electors Visitor Program, which encourages the sharing of best practices in election management, delegations from Indonesia, Colombia, the Philippines, France, Belgium, South Africa, and Thailand are in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, “The report card of development that took place in Bihar during the Jungle Raj era is zero. From 1990 to 2005, for 15 years, this Jungle Raj destroyed Bihar. In the name of running the government back then, you were simply looted. That is why I say, remember the figure zero. The number of expressways, flyovers built in the 15 years of Jungle Raj in Bihar is zero…”

Prominent constituencies such as Raghopur, Begusarai, Patna Sahib, and Nalanda are seeing closely fought battles. The outcome of the election will decide the political fortunes of key leaders including Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Samrat Choudhary, Maithili Thakur, and Anant Singh.

Voting for the first phase is set to begin at 7 am and continue until 6 pm.

The upcoming Bihar Assembly election will see a major showdown between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition-led Mahagathbandhan. Adding to the political mix is a third front led by political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, whose Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) is making its electoral debut by contesting all 243 seats.

The NDA alliance in Bihar includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Hindustan Awami Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).

The Mahagathbandhan, on the other hand, is spearheaded by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) along with the Congress, Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP), Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, the CPI, CPI-M, and other Left parties.

The Bihar Assembly election will be conducted in two phases on November 6 (Thursday) and November 11, while the counting of votes will take place on November 14. The state comprises a total of 243 Assembly constituencies.
