The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, regarded as one of the richest civic bodies after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), had been under the control of Sharad Pawar’s undivided NCP since 2017. However, the Pawars appear to have lost their long-held bastion despite an intensive campaign.

According to trends, the BJP is leading in 86 wards, while the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) is ahead in 33 wards. In contrast, the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) is leading in just one ward.

Amid the ongoing vote counting for 227 wards of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat accused the police force of allegedly wounding the party workers in a lathi charge at the counting centre established at the Government Engineering College in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Early leads being reported from vote counting of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections show the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena Mahayuti alliance leading in around 52 wards, according to preliminary data that is coming in from the counting of postal ballots. The official figures from the SEC and the BMC are awaited.
According to the postal ballots counted till now, the BJP has a lead in 35 seats, Shiv Sena 17 seats.

In the very early trends of the BMC elections, the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance has taken the lead in 15 wards, while the Thackeray-led camp is ahead in 10 wards, according to figures available at 10:15 am.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Anand Dubey, on Thursday, expressed confidence in the victory of the united Thackeray brothers camp in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2026.
Speaking to ANI, Dubey said that the party has gained strength after Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) came in alliance with Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for BMC elections.
“We have gained strength with the Thackerays coming together. We are hopeful that the results will be in our favour,” he said.
Moreover, he underscored the party’s commitment to the state’s development, before and after the elections, terming the party “servants of Mumbai.”
“We have been working for over 30 years for the betterment of this state. We hope to win the elections and continue to work for the state. Unlike the BJP, which poses itself as the ‘King of Mumbai’, we call ourselves the ‘Servant of Mumbai’; we do and will continue to serve the state,” he stated.
Dubey further hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the delay in the conduct of elections.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) National Spokesperson Waris Pathan on Thursday expressed confidence that the party would achieve “great success” in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls.
Speaking to ANI, Waris Pathan said, “This is an exit poll, not an accurate poll, and whatever is being shown, this isn’t the first time it’s happened. It’s happened many times before that something was shown in the poll, and in the end, it turned out to be something else. Tomorrow is the vote counting, so tomorrow the results will come out. By tomorrow evening, everything will be clear. Who won, who lost, everything will be known… We are confident that the people have blessed us with their votes… We will achieve great success…”

Maharashtra elections result 2026 Live: Nearly 53% voter turnout was recorded in Mumbai BMC on Thursday, slightly lower than the 55.53% turnout in last elections in 2017, reported news agency PTI.

The civic body said 2,299 officials and staff have been deployed for the BMC vote counting process, including 759 supervisors, 770 assistants, and 770 Class IV employees. All personnel were given advance training to ensure the smooth conduct of the counting.

To ensure accuracy and transparency, results will be compiled using a computerised system. Additionally, CCTV surveillance, fire safety arrangements, and medical facilities have been put in place at all 23 counting centres across Mumbai.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections have been postponed multiple times due to a combination of factors, including disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Supreme Court directives on OBC reservation, and disagreements over ward delimitation. The civic body last held elections in 2017. After the tenure of corporators ended on March 7, 2022, polls were not conducted as scheduled, resulting in the BMC being placed under administrative control.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis before the elections said that the ruling Mahayuti alliance is on course to secure victory in 26 of the state’s 29 municipal bodies. He expressed confidence that the alliance would register decisive wins in major civic corporations, including Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Nashik, with comfortable majorities.

According to civic authorities, once polling ended, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were securely transferred to two strong rooms located in Vikhroli in the eastern suburbs and Kandivali in the western suburbs. In the early hours of Friday, the machines will be moved from these strong rooms to the 23 counting centres, where votes from all 227 ward constituencies will be tallied.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday accused Opposition parties of displaying a “defeatist mindset” by alleging foul play in the corporation polls even before the voting process had concluded.

After casting his vote in his hometown of Nagpur, Fadnavis drew attention to the ink mark on his finger, questioning whether it was fading. “I too have been marked with a marker – does it get erased?” he remarked. He added that if there were genuine concerns regarding voting machines or the marker pens used, the Election Commission should examine them and make necessary changes.

“They can even use oil paint if required. Elections must be conducted in a fair and impartial manner. However, creating unnecessary uproar over every issue and constantly casting doubts is completely wrong,” the Chief Minister said.

BMC Election 2026 Results LIVE: Exit polls point to a clear win for the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections held on Thursday, suggesting a major setback for the Shiv Sena (UBT)–Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) combine.

As per the Axis My India exit poll, the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance is projected to secure between 131 and 151 seats in Mumbai, with an estimated vote share of 42 per cent. The alliance comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS, and the NCP (SP), led by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, is expected to win 58–68 seats with a 32 per cent vote share.

The Congress–Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA)–Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP) alliance is forecast to bag 12–16 seats with around 13 per cent of the votes. Other parties and independents, including the NCP, AIMI,M and Left groups, are likely to collectively win 6–12 seats, according to the exit poll.

BMC Election 2026 Results LIVE: Ward 227, comprising Colaba, recorded the lowest voter turnout in the city at just 15.73 per cent till 3.30 pm on polling day, significantly below Mumbai’s overall average turnout of 41.08 per cent.

Low voter participation in South Mumbai is not new, and the pattern appears to have continued in the current civic polls. During the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Ward 227 also logged the lowest turnout at 28.25 per cent, marginally higher than the 23.47 per cent recorded in the 2012 civic polls.

In contrast, voter participation in the area has been relatively better during state and national elections. Turnout stood at 47.70 per cent in the last Lok Sabha elections, while Colaba still recorded the lowest polling percentage of 33.44 per cent in the Assembly polls.

Election officials said special measures were taken to encourage voting, including setting up polling stations within residential housing societies. More than 700 such booths were established across Mumbai to make voting more accessible and improve turnout levels, officials added.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the polls, Mumbai Police deployed more than 28,000 personnel across sensitive and key locations. Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Chaudhary said the election process passed without any major incident.

“There was no serious incident related to polling anywhere in the city. Overall, it was a peaceful election,” Chaudhary said, adding that minor arguments were quickly resolved on the ground.
