Projections by Axis My India suggest the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance could secure between 131 and 151 seats, while the Shiv Sena (UBT)–MNS–NCP (SP) combine is estimated to win 58–68 seats. The Congress–VBA–RSP alliance is projected to get 12–16 seats, with 6–12 seats likely going to others.

Another exit poll by Sakal also indicates an advantage for the ruling alliance, predicting 119 seats for Mahayuti, while estimating 75 seats for the alliance comprising Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, NCP (SP), and MNS.

Pimpri-Chinchwad DCP Vishal Gaikwad says, “The counting process is about to begin sometime in the D ward here. We have deployed appropriate arrangements… There is 1 riot-control police platoon, 7-8 officers and 100 policemen…”

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections have been postponed multiple times due to a combination of factors, including disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Supreme Court directives on OBC reservation, and disagreements over ward delimitation. The civic body last held elections in 2017. After the tenure of corporators ended on March 7, 2022, polls were not conducted as scheduled, resulting in the BMC being placed under administrative control.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis before the elections said that the ruling Mahayuti alliance is on course to secure victory in 26 of the state’s 29 municipal bodies. He expressed confidence that the alliance would register decisive wins in major civic corporations, including Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Nashik, with comfortable majorities.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has arranged the deployment of 2,299 officials at 23 designated counting centres across Mumbai for the counting of votes in the civic elections held on Thursday.

According to civic authorities, once polling ended, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were securely transferred to two strong rooms located in Vikhroli in the eastern suburbs and Kandivali in the western suburbs. In the early hours of Friday, the machines will be moved from these strong rooms to the 23 counting centres, where votes from all 227 ward constituencies will be tallied.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday accused Opposition parties of displaying a “defeatist mindset” by alleging foul play in the corporation polls even before the voting process had concluded.

After casting his vote in his hometown of Nagpur, Fadnavis drew attention to the ink mark on his finger, questioning whether it was fading. “I too have been marked with a marker – does it get erased?” he remarked. He added that if there were genuine concerns regarding voting machines or the marker pens used, the Election Commission should examine them and make necessary changes.

“They can even use oil paint if required. Elections must be conducted in a fair and impartial manner. However, creating unnecessary uproar over every issue and constantly casting doubts is completely wrong,” the Chief Minister said.

BMC Election 2026 Results LIVE: Exit polls point to a clear win for the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections held on Thursday, suggesting a major setback for the Shiv Sena (UBT)–Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) combine.

As per the Axis My India exit poll, the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance is projected to secure between 131 and 151 seats in Mumbai, with an estimated vote share of 42 per cent. The alliance comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS, and the NCP (SP), led by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, is expected to win 58–68 seats with a 32 per cent vote share.

The Congress–Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA)–Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP) alliance is forecast to bag 12–16 seats with around 13 per cent of the votes. Other parties and independents, including the NCP, AIMI,M and Left groups, are likely to collectively win 6–12 seats, according to the exit poll.

BMC Election 2026 Results LIVE: Ward 227, comprising Colaba, recorded the lowest voter turnout in the city at just 15.73 per cent till 3.30 pm on polling day, significantly below Mumbai’s overall average turnout of 41.08 per cent.

Low voter participation in South Mumbai is not new, and the pattern appears to have continued in the current civic polls. During the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Ward 227 also logged the lowest turnout at 28.25 per cent, marginally higher than the 23.47 per cent recorded in the 2012 civic polls.

In contrast, voter participation in the area has been relatively better during state and national elections. Turnout stood at 47.70 per cent in the last Lok Sabha elections, while Colaba still recorded the lowest polling percentage of 33.44 per cent in the Assembly polls.

Election officials said special measures were taken to encourage voting, including setting up polling stations within residential housing societies. More than 700 such booths were established across Mumbai to make voting more accessible and improve turnout levels, officials added.

Over 28,000 Police Personnel Deployed

To ensure the smooth conduct of the polls, Mumbai Police deployed more than 28,000 personnel across sensitive and key locations. Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Chaudhary said the election process passed without any major incident.

“There was no serious incident related to polling anywhere in the city. Overall, it was a peaceful election,” Chaudhary said, adding that minor arguments were quickly resolved on the ground.
