Zimbabwe’s daunting chase of 257 began cautiously, reaching 4/0 in the first over as Arshdeep Singh kept things tight despite a couple of singles. The second over saw an early twist when Hardik Pandya was welcomed with a top-edged six from Tadiwanashe Marumani, but he quickly pulled things back as Zimbabwe moved to 10/0.

Brian Bennett and Marumani struggled for timing against disciplined bowling, crawling to 19/0 after three overs. Pandya and Arshdeep continued to vary pace and lengths, conceding only singles and twos as Zimbabwe reached 25/0 at the end of four overs, already falling behind the required rate.

In the fifth over, Bennett found a couple of boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah, pushing the score to 33/0, but the pressure remained evident. The sixth over finally produced a spark as Marumani reverse-swept Varun Chakaravarthy for a six, though India still controlled proceedings with Zimbabwe at 44/0 after six overs, needing a massive acceleration in the chase.

Richard Ngarava was taken apart as Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma unleashed a late assault. Pandya began with a boundary before Tilak smashed back-to-back sixes, and the over yielded 21 runs, taking India to 241/4. Brad Evans started with pinpoint yorkers, but Pandya finished in style, hammering consecutive sixes to bring up his fifty and cap off a blazing finish. The final over produced 15 runs as India powered to a mammoth 256/4.

In the 16th over, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma kept the momentum going with smart placement and quick running, collecting 11 runs off Blessing Muzarabani to move India to 187/4.

The 17th over saw further acceleration as Pandya struck a boundary and rotated strike well, while Tilak launched a superb six over extra cover. Brad Evans conceded 14 runs, pushing India to 201/4 and firmly on course for a massive total.

In the 18th over, the pair went berserk. Pandya hammered a towering six and Tilak followed with a four and a magnificent pull for another maximum, taking 19 runs off Muzarabani’s final over. India surged to 220/4 after 18 overs, recording their highest-ever T20 World Cup total with two overs still remaining.

In the 14th over, Hardik Pandya smashed a towering six and rotated strike well, while Suryakumar Yadav added a single as 10 runs came off Ryan Burl’s over, taking India to 161/3.

The 15th over proved eventful as Suryakumar Yadav hammered a six and a couple before miscued a slower ball to be caught by Tashinga Musekiwa. Tilak Varma arrived and struck a boundary first ball, while Hardik Pandya chipped in with runs as 15 came from Richard Ngarava’s over, pushing India to 176/4 after 15 overs.

The wicket of Abhishek Sharma was definitely a big wicket but a fan wants Mohammad Amir to apologise to Sharma!

India maintained strong momentum from overs 5 to 12, steadily building a commanding total against Zimbabwe. The fifth and sixth overs brought a surge in scoring as Abhishek Sharma dominated with boundaries and a six, helping India race to 80/1 by the end of the powerplay.

Through overs 7 to 9, both Abhishek and Ishan Kishan rotated the strike efficiently while finding the odd boundary, pushing the score close to 100. India crossed the three-figure mark in the 10th over with Abhishek continuing his fluent strokeplay. The breakthrough finally came in the 11th over when Kishan departed after a brisk 38, but Suryakumar Yadav counterattacked immediately with a boundary. By the end of the 12th over, Abhishek’s aggressive fifty and Surya’s quick start had powered India to a strong 134/2, firmly in control of the innings.

Zimbabwe have won the toss and elected to bowl first. India have brought in two changes- Washington Sundar and Rinku Singh OUT! Axar Patel and Sanju Samson have made their way in the Playing XI. 

Good news for India and the Indian fans! As South Africa have beaten West Indies comprehensively the NRR will no longer be an issue for India provided they go onto win their remaining matches.
