While addressing the Rajya Sabha in the Parliamentary Monsoon Session today on July 30, 2025, Union Home Minister said that, “I want to respond to those asking about the Prime Minister. I am here addressing their concerns. PM Modi is very much in office. If I can respond and clarify, then why insist on hearing from him?”

“To understand this difference, we must not look at the Pahalgam incident in isolation. Doing so would be an injustice, both to the nation and to the larger narrative. We need to view the situation in its entirety.” Says JP Nadda

JP Nadda expressed his intent to delve into the details of Operation Sindoor. Recalling previous terror attacks, he criticised the past government’s handling of such incidents, stating that they were insensitive and failed to take any action. He emphasised that the current government is not inactive and is committed to responding decisively to national security threats.

“Our thinking on Pakistan is different from that of the United States. This is not something new it has existed historically. On this matter, India follows a clear national policy: there will be no talks until terrorism ends. This is a bilateral policy and a consistent national approach. It is also not the first time that we’ve had differences with the US regarding national policy.”

India Has Always Raised Concerns With the US Without Hesitation

“There were many questions raised about the US—have we taken a strong stand on issues? I want to make it clear that we never hesitated to raise any issue with the US. We took up deportation concerns, and today, that problem no longer exists. We raised visa matters. We also took up students’ concerns.

Now Mr. Chidambaram suggested that we should raise the issue of Harvard. But I studied at JNU, not Harvard—so I hesitate to raise that. We are currently negotiating a trade agreement in the national interest. Therefore, there should be no doubt that this government is fully committed to our national interest and has the strength to stand firm on every issue.”

When I went to China, everything was on record.
I discussed terrorism, de-escalation, and trade. I made it clear that relations with China will develop only on the basis of mutual respect. Unlike the Congress, I held no secret meetings and made no secret trade deals- only those who went to the Olympics and these so-called ‘China gurus’ do such things.

“It is possible that I have some gaps in my knowledge about China because I did not get any ‘China lessons’ by going to the Olympics. Nobody invited me… I was not a special person. Some people, however, gained their ‘China knowledge’ by going to the Olympics. But when they went there, whom did they meet and what did they sign? They never talk about that. And the people they met were not just from China; they met others too.

But let’s leave it at that. Because when there are ‘China classes,’ sometimes some lessons are missed, and for that, one needs private tuitions. These tuitions, they take from Chinese ambassadors, inviting them home.

Now these ‘China gurus’ say that China and Pakistan have come very close today. But how did that happen?

It happened because we left the land of POK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) in between.”

S Jaishankar said: 

• Talks and terror will not go together
• There will be no nuclear blackmail against India.
• Blood and water will not flow together.
• This is the Modi government—things are different now, and you will see the change on the ground.

S Jaishankar Clarifies:

• No leader asked India to stop Operation Sindoor; it was only the Prime Minister of India.
• There was no mention of trade in any of those conversations.
• And there was no call between PM Modi and Mr. Trump.

• Made terrorism a global agenda.

• Brought global attention to terrorists like Masood Azhar and Abdul Rehman Makki—two notorious figures.

• Successfully held a UN Security Council meeting at the site of the 26/11 attacks—Taj Hotel in Mumbai.

• Tahawwur Rana, wanted for the 26/11 attacks, has finally been extradited to India by the Modi government and will now face trial here.

• Hosted the international conference “No Money for Terror”.

• Got The Resistance Front (TRF) designated as a global terrorist organisation.

Additionally, the UN Monitoring Team submitted its analytical report stating:

• The Pahalgam attack could not have happened without the support of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and there was a clear relationship between LeT and TRF.

• Another member state’s position noted that the attack was carried out by TRF, which is synonymous with LeT, and that Pakistan had opposed this view.

S Jaishankar : I have to recall history to remind the House how much has changed.

Therefore, I quote from the book of the National Security Advisor of the UPA Government:
He said, “A simple answer to why India did not immediately attack Pakistan?

After examining the options at the highest levels of the government, the decision-makers reported that more was to be gained from not attacking Pakistan than from attacking it.”

In the Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke on the Indus Water Treaty. He said, “They were concerned about Pakistani Punjab, but not about the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir.”

He added, “They claimed that Parliament had no right to decide how much water or money should go. But this was not the price of peace it was the price of appeasement.”

On US President Donald Trump’s statements, SP MP Akhilesh Yadav says, “The Indian government is not seeing who the real enemy is. All the terrorists come from Pakistan, but who is standing behind Pakistan? It is China. Do we have to go through the same situation every time there is a war-like situation?… Trade cannot be avoided. China is snatching away our land and trade…”

On Opposition’s protest over the SIR issue, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut says, “SIR is a very important exercise. The Congress party has also done this 20-25 times during their term… This exercise has not been done for a long time. We should demand this from the government to identify the people who do not have the right to vote. If this is a constitutional work, then why do they have an issue?
