Despite this, the midcap index showed resilience, ending the day with a solid gain of 152 points at 56,977. Market breadth remained positive, with the NSE advance-decline ratio favoring advances 2:1.
Financial stocks struggled, dragging the Nifty Bank down by 341 points to 53,661, while banking heavyweights closed in the red. The Sensex also fell by 207 points to close at 80,158, and the Nifty dropped 45 points to 24,580.
Among individual stocks, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was the top loser, falling over 2%, impacted by negative auto sector news. Meanwhile, PSU stocks attracted buying interest, with Power Grid and NTPC emerging as the top gainers in the Nifty.
