Donald Trump On The Alaska Summit With Vladimir Putin

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One while en route to Alaska, President Trump clarified the purpose of the meeting. “I’m not here to broker a deal on behalf of Ukraine,” he said. “My goal is getting President Putin to the table.”

Trump also noted that he had spoken with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of Putin, ahead of the summit. However, the U.S. President stopped short of offering any security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a potential agreement.

Ukraine Sidelined In Alaska Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who will not attend the Alaska talks, emphasized that Ukraine will continue “counting on America” during this critical juncture of the war.

Trump indicated that if the summit proceeds positively, he may arrange a trilateral meeting including Zelensky, a proposal the Ukrainian leader reportedly supports.

Russia-Ukraine War
