NEW DELHI: In another step to solve the Sunanda Pushkar murder mystery, Delhi Police is likely to soon interrogate Pakistan journalist Mehr Tarar often named in the controversy.
The Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the case has contacted the Pakistan High Commission to facilitate a ‘meeting’ with the foreign journalist, sources inform.
Sources close to the interrogation informed that a letter has been written to the High Commissioner of Pakistan last week in connection to the case.
Last week, Delhi Police Chief BS Bassi speaking to the media stated that his team will speak to Tarar if required as she can throw some light in the case.
47-year-old Tarar who was earlier open to coordinate with any police interrogation on last Thursday expressed on her Twitter handle, “No comments. And that is my only comment (sic).”
Sunanda Pushkar, 52, wife of Congress minister Shashi Tharoor was found dead last year in January in a room of a five star hotel in the national capital. A day before her death, Sunanda was caught into a war-of-words with the Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Twitter over her alleged affair with Tharoor.
Officers in regards to Tarar’s interrogation say that there were bleak chances as there is no legal binding for the quizzing by the Indian Police. The ‘examination’ will take place, only with her consensus.
On one hand, DCP Prem Nath is probable of going to US to get the viscera report and on the other; DCP (II) PS Kushwah is likely to travel to Pakistan along with some woman officers, sources inform.
Tarar being a woman cannot be served with a notice and police can only interact with her at her place, date and time suggested by her, before the sunset.
Believing the sources, the officer is expected to meet the Pakistani journalist at her residence or a café in Lahore. If she refuses to met and agrees for interrogation, police may send her a questionnaire in an e-mail.
Mehr Tarar’s name came prominently in the recorded statements of several people including journalist Nalini Singh. Singh has claimed that Sunanda was seeking her help in retrieving some BBM messages exchanged between Tharoor and Tarar. She further in her statement before the police and the magistrate said that Sunanda had told her that her husband Shashi Tharoor was to marry Mehr Tarar after the Lok Sabha Elections. For all the latest National News, download NewsX App
