Kolkata: After being issued a threat by the Shiv Sena, cancelling all of his shows in India, then getting an invitation for a concert from Mamata Banerjee, Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali and his son will be finally performing in the city of Kolkata on January 12.
The announcement was made by Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member and spokesperson for the party Derek O’Brien on Twitter.

In October, the Shiv Sena party cancelled Ghulam Ali’s show in Mumbai and Pune, citing that the party was strongly against any form of cultural association with Pakistan who regularly killed Indian soldiers and civilians around the border.
After the ruckus over his performance which was to be performed in the iconic Shanmukhananda Hall, Ghulam Ali cancelled all of his shows across India.
“I am an artiste and music is the only thing I know. Art does not know or care about boundaries and that is what I have maintained for most of my life. This is a great nation and has always showered me with a lot of love and affection. I will keep singing here till I have the energy. I only feel that the atmosphere needs to be right. How does one enjoy music in conditions like this,” the Pak singer said.
Amidst the Sena-Ghulam scenario, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee invited the Pakistani singer to Kolkata. Mamata had earlier tweeted her invite to the singer:
“Music has no boundaries. Music is the rhythm of the heart. Ghulam Ali Ji concert can be held in Kolkata. We will make all arrangements.”
The father-son duo will be performing in Kolkata’s Park Circus Maidan on Jan 12.
