MUMBAI: Renowned columnist Shobha De has once again been trapped in a controversy for expressing her critical views publically.

A Shiv Sena MLA has given the author a ‘privilege motion’ in Maharashtra Assembly for speaking against the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and has asked for an apology from her. (Also Read: Cinemas should show Marathi movies in Prime Time, says Devendra Fadnavis government)

Following the orders from the Fadnavis government that all multiplexes should screen Marathi movies in the prime time, 67-year-old writer expressed her views on Twitter. She said: 

However, the issue was today raised in the state assembly where a lawmaker of the ruling alliance sought a privilege motion against her and demanded an apology. Soon after the privilege motion was given, Shobha De once again reacted on Twitter. 

A massive controversy has broken out after an order from the Maharashtra government headed by Devendra Fadnavis has been released that all cinemas to screen Marathi movies during the prime time (6PM – 9PM).

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defending the verdict added that the decision will promote the Marathi cinema. “It is the duty of the Maharashtra government to support Marathi culture,” said GVL Narasimha of BJP.

Screening of the Marathi movies during prime time has become mandatory for all multiplexes in Maharashtra now. 

Apart from this, a short movie on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinemas is as well being prepared by the government for compulsory screening in theatres which will be shown after the national anthem.
