New Delhi: Reigniting the debate on reservation, National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), today forwarded a proposal to government demanding 27% quota for OBCs in private companies.
As per the sources, the proposal has been backed by political leaders across the nation. Ram Vilas Paswan of LJP and other cabinet ministers have said that they are ready to bring the proposal to table in the upcoming parliament session.
Attacking the BJP government, Congress spokesperson, Priyanka Chaturvedi termed the proposal as ‘poll gimmick’ by the party. She also added that the focus should be on creating a level playing field where everyone gets equal opportunities.
Commenting on the development, BJP spokesperson, Shaina NC said that the proposal has been forwarded by opposition and NDA govt will take a call on this after discussion with the experts.
It’s important to note that the demand for the reservation was raised in the rein of UPA-II as well. However, the party had refused to entertain the proposal. Private sector had also opposed the move saying merit should be the sole basis of selection.
Government’s stand on proposal is expected to have a huge impact on NDA’s performance in the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar where caste card is often a decisive factor.
