New Delhi: Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Smriti Iirani on Thursday called a meeting with all the vice-chancellors (VCs) of central universities at Surajkund in Haryana.
According to sources, it is expected that the discussions will focus on establishing better dialogue, environment for university students and sensitisation of universities against discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or religion.
HRD minister Smriti Irani meeting VCs of all central universities draws a lot of significance at a time when central universities like Hyderabad, Jadavpur and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have already caught themselves in massive controversies. Also the left lashing out on Centre and protests by ABVP has created tense situation between students outfit of various political parties.

The HRD ministry feels that 2012 University Grants Commission’s (UGC) guidelines are not being adhered by the universities. Also, the ministry feels that it’s essential that universities establish dialogue with the students so that they don’t feel alienated.
This is being seen as a tremulous time for all the universities, especially after anti-national incidents which took place in JNU in the past few days.
