Bengaluru: A group of localities attacked three students from Kerala, after enquiring whether they were Malayali. This incident occurred early on Saturday morning where about 10 locals attacked three students from Kerala studying in Bengaluru’s Bhoopasandra area.
According to the students, the incident took place when the three went to pack food from a restaurant nearby and found the men, reportedly drunk, deflating tyres of parked vehicles. An argument broke out between the two groups when the students objected to it.
Marvin Michael Joy of Brindavan College sustained injuries and was taken to Bowring Hospital, from where he was later moved to Nimhans. He is said to be recovering well. The two others, Nikhil Kameshwar and Mohammed Hasher, were also assaulted but managed to flee the spot.
The allegation from the students is that they were targeted only because they were Malayalis. The cops who are investigating the incident are not ready to tag it as a hate crime or racist attack. The incident could be a result of the heated argument that took place between the group of localities and the students prior to it.
Police have registered an FIR against the incident and investigation is on.For all the latest National News, download NewsX App
