Following this an enraged BJP moved a petition saying that he ought to be suspended. The government backed it and now he has been suspended.
Waris Pathan told a leading new channel, “Javed Akhtar has insulted the prayer cap of Muslims. It is the crown which every Muslim in the world wears on his head. He has insulted Indian Muslims by giving such a statement and should apologise for it.” Over Javed Akhtar’s comments in the Rajya Sabha,
On Tuesday, in the Rajya Sabha, noted film personality-turned-MP Javed Akhtar had slammed Asaduddin Owaisi for his remarks made during an election rally in Maharashtra.
“There is one leader, who is not a national leader, not even a state leader but a mohalla leader of Hyderabad. He says he will not say ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ because the Constitution does not ask him to do so. The Constitution even does not ask him to wear sherwani (dress) and topi (cap),” Javed Akhtar had said in the RS.
“I don’t care to know whether saying ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ is my duty or not. It is my right,” Akhtar said and then chanted ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ a number of times.
Earlier Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi from Hyderabad had said, “I don’t chant that slogan. What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahab… I won’t utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife to my throat… Nowhere in the Constitution it says that one should say: ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.
Senior Shiv Sena leader and minister Ramdas Kadam said Owaisi should go to Pakistan if he doesn’t want to say ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.
