SRINAGAR: Separatist leader Masarat Alam, who was placed under house arrest last night, was arrested in Srinagar on Friday morning over a scheduled rally in the valley today.

Late on Thursday night, the Jammu and Kashmir police put Hurriyat Chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Masarat Alam under house arrest after they had threatened a march at Tral in South Kashmir. (Also Read: Anti-India Rally in Srinagar: Nothing wrong in people waving Pakistan flags, says Masarat Alam)

Meanwhile, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh shared his reaction on Twitter, saying “Want to know under what sections Alam and Geelani have been arrested.”

Earlier, an FIR was lodged against Geelani and Alam under the unlawful activities in a local police station for waving Pakistani flags and raising pro-Pak slogans during a rally in Srinagar on Wednesday. (Also Read: SRINAGAR: Masrat Alam booked for unlawful activities)

After rally in Srinagar on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke with J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and asked to take an immediate and strict action against the separatist leaders.
