Gatimaan Express, which is a semi-high speed train, is expected to touch a maximum speed of 160 km/hr.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu exclusively spoke to NewsX. Here are the key points he made:
  • In Indian Railway, our entire mission is to increase speed, safety, customer comfort and augmentation of capacity in the shortest possible time, so everything needs to be put on fast track.
  • We are committed to increase the average speed of all trains in the country, whether they are passenger, express, mail or superfast.
  • We have taken our first step forward. We will make sure that the ‘Gatimaan Express’ will be running at the highest speed ever recorded in India.
  • This is the beginning and not the end of our mission to ensure that all the train operations will run better, safer and more comfortable.
  • As you know, tourism is one of the big contributors to the nation development, and Agra is one of the preferred destinations in India and as well as abroad for the Taj Mahal, we realised we must align ourselves to national priorities. If we get our service operated in a manner to promote tourism, it will only help us.
