Srinagar: An FIR has been filed against 20 NIT students who created ruckus inside the campus by inciting violence and damaging public property on the night of the match between India and West Indies.
The NIT students were booked under Sections 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 427 (mischief), 336 (endangering life of others) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Ranbir Penal Code for the clashes between the local and outstation students that took place last Friday.
The police identified 20 miscreants from the video footage that they got from the day of the violence. The role of some of the faculty members is also under the scanner. The video footage shows local and outstation students clash with each other.

The National Institute of Technology in the meantime has allowed its students to leave the campus only after the students’ parents grant them the permission to leave.
The Deputy Chief Minister of J &K, Nirmal Singh who was supposed to visit the NIT campus was asked by DG police to postpone his visit due to the fresh clashes that erupted outside the campus. The police are of the opinion that visits by politicians may worsen the already sensitive situation.
