Chaitra Navratri is on Friday on the 8th of April 2016, and those fasting for the day might want to take note of these health tips to make their fast a healthy one, instead of just counterproductive.
Drink lots of fluids
Unless you subscribe to a nirjal vrat it’s is not only essential that you drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated, but it’s also beneficial to have high glucose fluids such fruit juice or sports drinks to help keep your blood sugar up.
Coconut water and buttermilk are also great for consuming during fasting.
Cut out refined sugar
Not only is it better to appease your sweet tooth with fruits instead of sugary snacks, as fruits will help you keep healthy during this time, but it is also better to use jiggery or honey as a sugar substitute in any homemade sweets, like kheer, that one might be having.
Eat small meals
While this might be debatable, depending on the kind of vrat you’ve chosen to take up, it’s good to eat fruits like custard apple or food like amaranth porridge in small amounts throughout the day to keep blood sugar up.
High carbohydrate foods should be paired up with fibrous vegetables in order to keep the balance.
