Srinagar: The situation in Handwara Kashmir remained tense as one more youth was killed in the fresh clash on Wednesday. Multiple clashes between locals and security personnel are still taking place in Kashmir’s Handwara district.
Mobile Internet services have been blocked in the Kashmir Valley amid curfew-like restrictions imposed in view of the disquiet following the death of three civilians in the firing by the Army on Wednesday.
Violence sparked off in the valley after an allegation that an army man had molested a girl in the valley. The girl however later denied the charges saying that she was not molested by any army personnel. Instead she accused two local youths of hatching a conspiracy.
As per the video released, the victim said, “I was going to the washroom after class. I came out and somebody snatched my bag and slapped me. A boy in a school uniform asked me if the Kashmiri’s were killed. I was surrounded by a lot of boys and they asked me to come to the police station. There was a cop; I thought of going to the station with the cop. He walked with us and he kept abusing me. They slapped and abused me.”
The victim has denied any army personnel being present there at that time.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has sought a “time-bound inquiry” into the Handwara firing from Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
In her meeting with Parrikar, she sought a time-bound probe saying it will act as a deterrent and prevent such incidents for the future.
