Three sailors sustained injuries and were hospitalised after a cylinder blast aboard Naval diving support ship INS Nireekshak. The ship returned back to the port around midnight and all the three sailors were shifted to a military hospital.

Two among the three injured sailors were treated for splinter injuries, but one of the sailors had to undergo amputation of his right leg.  The ship was 40 nautical miles off the coast of Vizhinjam.

The condition of all three sailors is said to be stable.

The authorities have ordered an inquiry into the matter.
