Chandigarh: A week after a diamond store in Chandigarh was looted at gunpoint by three unidentified individuals, it emerged on Sunday that the heist was staged by the owners of the jewellery store itself. Rs 10 crore insurance is being seen as the main motive behind the heist.
Vinod Verma and Rajnish Verma, two brothers who owned the jewellery store, had chanced upon the idea of claiming Rs 10 crore insurance coverage for declaring Rs 14 crore worth of jewellery as having been robbed. The jewellery store room is located at Sector 17 in the city of Chandigarh.

The relatives of the owners had allegedly staged the robbery and destroyed the evidence which was the memory card of the CCTV camera in the store.
Upon investigation by the police on the incident, the brothers drew suspicion when both of them got themselves admitted in a hospital so that they could avoid being questioned by the police.
On 1st May, two women and a man had entered the jewellery store posing as customers thereupon which, they took out a gun and started looting the store.
