New Delhi: Extremely disappointed over the charges being dropped against Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in connection with the 2008 Malegaon blast case, the Congress Party on Friday alleged the National Investigative Agency (NIA) has become ‘Namo Investigation Authority’ working for leaders affiliated to the BJP and RSS.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the charges being dropped against ABVP leader Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and other BJP or RSS affiliated people has shocked collective conscience of the nation on account of the manner in which blatant disregard and misuse of authority of NIA is being done by the BJP government.
“The NIA under Modi ji has become ‘Namo Investigation Authority’ purely aimed at giving clean chit to the BJP, RSS affiliated leaders in various criminal cases,” he added.
Surjewala further said Ashok Chakra awardee Hemant Karkare investigated the 2008 Malegaon blast where 11 people were arrested pursuant to his investigation.
“The BJP, Shiv Sena had then also called Mr. Karkare a traitor to the nation. He laid down his life fighting valiantly terrorist like Azmal Kasab and today the BJP once again has killed Karkare’s memories by disbelieving a thorough investigation done by him,” he added.
The NIA today filed its chargesheet in the September 2008 Malegaon blasts case and dropped the names of Sadhvi Pragnya Singh Thakur and four others as ‘accused’.
The Malegaon 2008 blast case was a first case in which Hindu extremists, including Lt. Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur were chargesheeted in 2009 by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad.
The NIA took over the case in 2011.
