NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha on Tuesday witnessed a major drama as the Opposition protested over Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticizing them during his visit abroad.
As the chaos grew in the Parliament, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley quickly defended PM Modi saying no gag order can be issued against the Prime Minister.
“Why cannot Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak on what has happened in past 60 years? The Prime Minister is permitted to say that he will put an end to what happened for 60 years,” Jaitley said.
Amid the ruckus over the Modi’s comments during his international tour against the former government, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice briefly on Tuesday.
Slamming the Centre, Congress leader Anand Sharma stated, “PM Modi claimed of cleaning up the mess of last 60 years. In this way, he has insulted the history of India for 60 years. He has not only insulted Jawaharlal Nehru but also Atal Bihari Vajpayee with his remarks.”
Addressing the Indian Diaspora at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto during his recent international visit, PM Modi stated, “The government in India has changed, so has the outlook of Indians. My job is to ensure that India is cleaned up. It will take time to clean up the mess of the past. My mission is ‘Skill India, not Scam India’.”
Slamming the Opposition for ‘unnecessary’ chaos, the Finance Minister reverted to Anand Sharma, saying, “The member (Anand Sharma) and others must realize that in today’s technology whether you discuss the scam in India or outside in Berlin, Internet will take it everywhere in the world. The satellite will take it everywhere. So even if you discuss it here, people all over the world will see it. So there is no need to be sensitive about the fact that it is not discussed here and was discussed outside.”
